Screenshotting an image out of a PDF works, but it re-compresses whatever you capture and locks you into your screen's resolution. If the PDF has the image embedded properly, you can get the original file out instead.

These sound similar but do different jobs. PDF to JPG instead renders each full page of the PDF as an image, capturing everything on the page, text included, as a picture. Tips for a clean extraction
Not every PDF has extractable images. If a "picture" you see in the PDF is actually vector graphics — drawn shapes and paths, common in diagrams and logos — rather than an embedded photo, it won't come out through this tool the way a JPEG or PNG would.
Quality matches whatever was embedded originally. This pulls out the actual image data from the PDF — it doesn't upscale or improve a low-resolution image that was embedded at low quality to begin with.
A scanned PDF is different from a PDF with embedded photos. A scanned document is usually one full-page image per page, so extracting from it gives you page-sized images rather than individual smaller photos.
